Artist's Statement

I’ve liked drawing for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I was around eleven years old that I got serious about it. I taught myself to draw by copying pictures of my favorite video game characters onto printer paper with cheap colored pencils. Nearly every test, worksheet, and notebook I had in school ended up covered in little doodles. I still take a lot of inspiration from media I enjoy, be it games, music, or books. I’m also a big fan of nature and a lot of my work features animals, especially bugs and marine life.

I really enjoy using bright, bold colors in my art. I almost never use black or gray, usually replacing them with dark purples and blues. I like working digitally because of this, it’s difficult to get the level of saturation I like with traditional pigments. I like to look at other people’s art and examine what makes it appealing, and learning from it to improve my own work. My goal with art is to do that for other people- I want someone to look at my art and feel inspired to make something of their own.
